This painting captures Church Street Ghaut, one of Penang’s historic waterfront streets that once connected George Town to the old shoreline. Once home to bustling trade, secret society landmarks, and the old Church Street Pier, it reflects the layered history of early Penang. Born in Penang in 1960, I’ve passed by this street countless times. Its charm and stories have always drawn me, and I’ve long hoped to capture its essence in my art. At last, in 2024, I fulfilled that wish—painting not just the scene before me, but also the memories and history it holds.

一切都似乎依旧，然而实际上它已改变。这些的变化，犹如就在一瞬间。我采用了透明涂法来象征短暂的几秒，前面的车子似乎没动，时间，却从来没有停留过。 Everything seems to remain the same, yet in reality, it has changed. These changes feel as if they happened in an instant. I used a transparent painting technique to symbolize the fleeting seconds — the car in front appears motionless, but time has never stopped.
